Samyang Release Another Brilliant Astrophotography Lens with the Tiny and Compact AF 12mm F2 E Lens for Sony APS-C Cameras!

Samyang have just released their first autofocus wide-angle prime lens designed specifically for APS-C-sized sensors with the Samyang AF 12mm F2 E. A bright F2 aperture makes this lens a perfect choice for astrophotography, while the compact and lightweight design also makes it a great wide-angle option for street photographers.

Astrophotography-Centric AF 12mm F2 E

Design Features

The lens weighs in at only 213g(7.5oz) and measures only 59.2mm(2.3in) in length, striking a perfect balance between portability and performance. It’s also the lightest and smallest AF 12mm lens currently in the market!

The AF 12mm F2 E continues the Samyang trend of including weather-sealing features to prevent rain, snow and dust from entering the lens, allowing photographers to shoot in more conditions. The ergonomically designed grip has a micro pattern rubber ring, and a new modern design with a hidden red ring.

Thanks to the newly researched and developed Samyang STM (Stepping Motor), a larger and heavier focus lens group can be controlled more quietly and precisely, providing an autofocus function that is fast and accurate, as well as smooth and quiet. This makes it not only great for still shooters, but also perfect for vloggers and filmmakers.

Advanced Optical Performance

The lens features 12 elements in 10 groups, with 5 special glasses (1 H-ASP, 1 ASP, and 3 ED). The 3 extra-low dispersion (ED) elements and the 2 aspherical (H-ASP and ASP) elements have been incorporated into the optical design to minimise chromatic aberration and distortion, and produce far sharper images corner-to-corner.

Additionally, improved Ultra Multi Coating (UMC) has been applied to the lens elements to reduce surface reflections and prevent lens flare and ghosting, for improved light transmission and more contrast-rich imagery.

The bright F2 aperture means that astrophotographers can capture more light in shorter shutter times, a factor that is critical in ensuring APS-C shooters can record a bright enough image before the stars start to move in the frame.

The advanced optical design also provides a minimum focusing distance of only 0.19m, introducing an impressively shallow depth of field for close-up subjects. Samyang lenses have created a benchmark for soft, silky bokeh at wide apertures, and the AF 12mm F2 E is no exception to this rule – a feature that will impress street photographers and wide-angle portrait lovers alike.
